To celebrate Henri Barande’s first UK show
My work is both simple and elegant, so it can be described in simple or ornate language. I like the sense of sophistication and its elegant superiority. I also admire people with brilliant minds, who are also easy to talk to. These qualities can blend perfectly naturally. But when these traits are artificially imposed on people, they look miserable.
Modern design and a complete departure from superficial hobbyism. I look for designers who use beauty simply, without exaggeration or imitation, designers who always inspire you to create something new. Designers are not just image makers; they are dreamers who tell stories and think. For me, a good story is always more important than outward appearance.

Minimalism has reached a critical point, its peak. Where can we go from here? I don’t know. What matters most to a designer is to create things that satisfy them, that their work is a source of satisfaction, and that their relationship with the client is based on mutual satisfaction. It is essential to understand what the client wants and combine that with our own desires and capabilities. To create something special, we need enthusiasm from both sides. I am a very happy person, because I have worked with wonderful clients who have given me a lot of support.
For me, design is a quality of life. Good design has little to do with fads or temporary trends. I’m tired of hearing attempts to categorize it as a superficial phenomenon of fashion. In my opinion, a designer should strive beyond designing isolated objects; they should create an integrated value.

I want to create beautiful things, even if they are unnecessary to anyone, as a form of resistance against ugliness. That is my intention. A designer must be an interpreter of needs, both real and imagined, and must anticipate those questions that people have not yet thought about, which suddenly appear in things that have already been created.

Fast, cheap, and good—you should always choose two of these things. If it’s fast and cheap, it’s never good. If it’s cheap and good, it won’t be done quickly. And if it’s good and fast, it’s never cheap. But remember: Of these three, you should always choose two.
